Prizes
  • First Place: Dorothy Allen Turner Award – $1,500
  • Second Place: Max Kaplan Award – $1,000
  • Third Place: NOTE Award – $500

The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra began the Young Artists Competition (YAC) in 1996 to encourage professional standards of performance among young musicians. It was originally formed to serve residents or resident-students within a 50 mile radius of LaGrange.  As a result of its popularity, the competition now serves talented young musicians from six southeastern states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.  Each year the contestants perform before nationally and internationally recognized judges. The first place winner is invited to perform with the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra later in the concert season.

The application form details the criteria for participation.  Please follow these guidelines, and submit the appropriate paperwork with a video of your performance by the December 11, 2020 deadline.  Finalists will be chosen from these materials and invited to the final part of the competition on Saturday, February 6th 2021, in LaGrange, Georgia, where the winners will be chosen.

Covid Plan

PLEASE NOTE:  Finalists will be expected to perform live for the competition judges on the morning of February 6, 2021. If it is deemed unsafe to hold a live performance on that date due to COVID, finalist will be given the choice to resubmit their performance. You may submit the same piece again or have the original video-submission judged for the final decision.
