Brochures Arrive!

Good news is always welcome, and the LaGrange Symphony Brochures brought it this week.  A solid plan of programming was announced for this autumn season from the LSO.  In this season (unlike any other) musical content is still shared, and all CDC recommendations for social-distancing are upheld.  There will be no formal live concerts to attend.  Instead, two different avenues will be explored.  One nostalgic, and one new.

The “nostalgia” of the radio show is one thing that some of the younger generation may not appreciate.  But don’t underestimate the power of the imagination where you can see, through your mind’s eye, exactly what you are hearing.  EVERY Tuesday at 7:30 PM a new hour-long radio show will air on WELR (Eagle 102.3 FM) until December 15th. This radio show is entitled The Joy of the Orchestra with the LaGrange Symphony’s Richard Prior.  These shows will feature musical works performed by the LSO as well as other notable orchestras.  Maestro Prior’s commentary will give insights into the selections which include historical background, musical nuances, and other special elements to consider.  This is a perfect opportunity to expand what you already know about the featured music in a very fun way!  The first episode will feature Bernstein, Mozart and Beethoven.

The “new” part of this programming, is a series of video podcasts labeled Off the Podium.  The LSO’s music director, Richard Prior, will interview a variety of musicians, staff, and patrons each week until the end of the year.  These are unhurried and relaxed conversations centered around the importance of music in their lives – the influences, passions, and ways in which they seek and engage with music.  You may not be aware of some extraordinary things our musical family members do in their lives.

These weekly interviews will be available on-demand from the LSO website, or YouTube – so you can watch them at your convenience.  The radio show time is set, so you’ll need to tune-in, on-time, to catch the show! Tuesday’s at 7:30 PM on WELR (Eagle 102.3 FM).  See you there!
