Celebration & Surprise

Welcome to Music in the Sanctuary with Celebration & Surprise!  This YouTube concert opens the fall 2021 series of concerts from the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra. The season begins today, September 28th, at 7:30 PM with this free YouTube video concert release.  While the Music in the Sanctuary series begins here on YouTube,  it progresses to live concerts for the rest of 2021. (More on those concerts below.)

This concert: Celebration & Surprise

LSO YouTube LogosFilmed at the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange, this concert is all strings.  It is lovely, fresh, audibly rich and vibrant.  You will hear the string suites by Peter WarlockGustav Holst, and John Rutter performed by the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Richard Prior.  Warlock, Holst, and Rutter are all English composers and their music melds wonderfully together in this concert. The selections include Capriol Suite – Warlock, St. Paul’s Suite – Holst, and Suite for Strings – Rutter.

In this concert series, the number of musicians is scaled-down from a usual large LSO concert, but the music is dynamic and full. Beautifully captured, this film gives you multiple views with close ups, sectionals, and full group angles. It is free to enjoy on a computer or mobile device and appears via the LSO YouTube channel where all the videos are free to watch.  This concert video is 40 minutes long, and you may watch it as many times as you like.

Tip: if you have good quality speakers or headphones, you will appreciate the detail captured in this recording and also what this venue can produce acoustically.

More Music in the Sanctuary

The fall concert series, which encompasses four concert events, is called Music in the Sanctuary.  This is a steady path, that is as safe as possible, back toward a full and normal season, hopefully next year. The opening concert (September 28th) is online on YouTube, but the remaining three concerts are live and in-person events. All four concerts are at First United Methodist Church of LaGrange (FUMC).  One concert will be held in each of the remaining months of 2021.  The dates are October 12th “Reflection & Perfection”November 9th “Colors & Contrasts”, and December 7th “Fanfares & Serenades”.  Concerts begin at 7:30 PM at FUMC.  Tickets are sold as general admission seating for $20, with a savings for purchasing the set of tickets for all three live concerts.  The number of tickets sold is strictly limited to allow social distancing. Tickets go on sale October 1st.  You can find more information about these upcoming concerts on the LSO website’s 2021-2022 season page HERE. Join us!
