All New “Music in the Sanctuary”

Symphonic Legacy
Coming Up Quickly!

Mark your calendar and secure your tickets for Tuesday March 15th, at 7:30 PM. The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra will be performing their Symphonic Legacy concert at First United Methodist Church of LaGrange (FUMC). This is a wonderful venue with great acoustics.  The LSO is thankful to be able to perform one more concert in the FUMC sanctuary before returning to Callaway Auditorium.  Tickets are still available for this March 15th concert. Here is a quick link to the Ticketing Page.  This early spring concert is the second to last concert to be performed by the LSO this season. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear great music in the sanctuary.

The Symphonic Legacy concert includes:

  • Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture (written after a visit to Scotland’s famous Fingal’s Cave that left an indelible impression),
  • Haydn’s Symphony No. 104 in D Major (his LAST published symphony), and
  • Mozart’s Symphony No 1 in E-flat Major (his very FIRST symphony, written when he was just eight years old!).

We hope you will join us for Symphonic Legacy, an early spring performance, to celebrate the significant influences of Haydn, Mozart, and Mendelssohn on orchestral music as we now experience it. Their ability to effect and transform is still felt centuries later!

From Richard Prior, LSO Music Director and Conductor

I am delighted for the opportunity to continue the LSO’s 2021-2022 Music in the Sanctuary series with our collaborative partners at First United Methodist Church of LaGrange. In addition to a number of recording projects in the summer and the early Fall of 2021, the orchestra brought several performances to our patrons of great works that are too often overlooked in the canon. Mozart’s delightful first symphony, barely twelve minutes long, was written in 1764, and Haydn wrote his last in 1795. As “Papa” Haydn is regarded as the father of the Classical symphony, this a rare opportunity to hear the “passing of the baton” from Haydn to Mozart.

April Concert

The LSO April concert, which is our last concert of the 2021-22 season is scheduled for April 26th at 7:30 PM at Callaway Auditorium!  This will be our first concert back at our home on the campus of LaGrange College.  We are so pleased to bring you “Sounds of Home”, a concert which was originally slated for April of 2020, but was cancelled due to the pandemic.  More information will be posted and tickets will go on sale soon.

Thank you for supporting the Arts in LaGrange, and especially for supporting the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra.
