Meet Lauren Yejin Kang who at just 15 years old is already studying at The Juilliard School Pre-College, where she trains with Sheryl Staples, Principal Associate Concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. Lauren began playing violin at age five and now travels weekly between Alabama and New York to pursue her studies—an extraordinary commitment that reflects both her discipline and her passion. Already recognized as one of the nation’s most promising young violinists, she brings remarkable artistry and poise well beyond her years.

The Honor Orchestra 2026 event will happen this Saturday, February 21. The showcase concert to close the event is open to the public.

The LSO is committed to creating meaningful opportunities for young musicians. This scholarship continues that commitment by recognizing a deserving high school senior who has participated in one or more of their youth programs.

Congratulations to all who participated in making this milestone year of the Young Artists Competition such a memorable celebration of young talent.

Tune in April 29th, 2021 at 8:00 PM for an hour-long, all-Gershwin broadcast.  This young composer/pianist penned many much-loved works even though he only lived into his thirties.  Some of Gershwin’s compositions are slated to be performed by the LSO in the future.  We are looking forward to that!  This radio show will focus on two other works, Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F Major, and American in Paris…
