Supporting the Next Generation of Musicians and Scholars

The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra is proud to open applications for the 2026 Dr. Scott H. Smith Award of Excellence Scholarship. This annual scholarship reflects the LSO’s mission to enrich our community through music by supporting students who have grown through our educational and performance programs.

Through initiatives such as the Youth Orchestra, Strings Project, Young Artists Competition, and Ovation Music Camp, the LSO is committed to creating meaningful opportunities for young musicians. This scholarship continues that commitment by recognizing a deserving high school senior who has participated in one or more of these programs.

Honoring Dr. Scott H. Smith’s Legacy

The scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Scott H. Smith, the longest-serving board member in LSO history, with 29 years of dedicated leadership. A Professor of English at LaGrange College, Dr. Smith devoted his life to education and played a vital role in strengthening and expanding the LSO’s programs. This award celebrates his enduring belief in nurturing bright, curious, and motivated students.

Who Is Eligible to Apply

High school seniors currently enrolled in public, private, or home school are eligible if they have participated—past or present—in any LaGrange Symphony Orchestra program, including:

• Youth Orchestra

• Strings Ensemble

• Young Artists Competition

• Ovation Music Camp

The scholarship is awarded annually by the LSO scholarship committee to a qualified candidate whose achievements and involvement reflect excellence and commitment.
