...a rare opportunity pairing two Mendelssohn overtures
LaGrange Symphony Youth Orchestra Side-by-Side
Mendelssohn: The Hebrides
Elgar: Sea Pictures
Mendelssohn: Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage
Britten: Four Sea Interludes
As our season continues to flow, take this rare opportunity to hear a pairing of the two most treasured Mendelssohn overtures in the repertoire: The Hebrides and Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage – the former quoted in Elgar’s Enigma Variations heard earlier in the season. We are delighted to be joined on this program by LaGrange College Professor and soloist, Beth Everett for Elgar’s ravishing Sea Songs, a song cycle for contralto and orchestra. The performance concludes with Benjamin Britten’s poignant and dramatic Four Sea Interludes from the opera Peter Grimes. We are also thrilled to be joined by the LYSO for the annual “side-by-side” on this program!
Concert begins at 7:30 PM. Callaway auditorium is located on Dallis Street which is part of the campus of LaGrange College.
