Rob Kirby

A native of Wedowee, Alabama, Robert Kirby (b. 1970) spent his early years taking piano lessons and growing a love for music.  By the time he was in high school, Kirby was proficient on multiple instruments spanning the sections.  Kirby received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Jacksonville State University and taught music in Georgia public schools for nine years, including Dade and Troup Counties.  Kirby spent some time away from the public classroom to study masters’ level Music Composition at Georgia State University under Nikitas Demos.  For a change of pace, Kirby decided to become a police officer and joined the LaGrange Police Department in 2003.  He has served as a supervisor for 10 years and recently completed a Masters in Public Safety Administration degree from Columbus State University.  Even though his career path changed, Kirby has never stopped composing.  His music has been performed with various ensembles across the United States including the Central Florida Symphony Orchestra, Colorado State University Wind Ensemble, Elon University Wind Ensemble and Chorus, Morehead State University Chorus, University of Mississippi Wind Ensemble, LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, and the Choral Society of West Georgia.   One composition, “Backwoods Expressions”, received honorable mention at the International Double Reed Conference. He has also scored two short independent films for a small production company in the Atlanta area.  When he is not creating music, he is creating memories with his very active family. Kirby and his wife, Kathy, are parents to Katie (20), Charlie (13), and Abbie(11).

In addition to the premiere, the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra will perform a variety of classic and popular holiday works, complete with the traditional carol sing-a-long!

What a great night this will be!
